Who we are:
Whitt's End Rancho (WER), home to happy Cabo Goats and other various creatures. We are an off the grid solar powered micro farm/ranch continuously learning and developing our projects. Our guiding principles are founded in raising our animals humanly and respectfully with regard to each type of animal and their right to express their natural individuality and animalness. Our focus and development are in sustainable restorative agriculture and beyond organic principles and philosophy. We specialize in artisan style, hand crafted uniquely delicious products. Currently this includes free range goat dairy, pastured poultry & eggs, humanly raised pork & chevon, and coming soon range beef. We also offer an increasing variety of value added products and are in the process of creating on ranch food gardens, kid tours, dinner at the ranch and farm to table workshops.
What we are looking for in volunteers:
We are looking for happy, motivated, hardworking, geter done people who are passionate about animals and the prospect of the noble lifestyle and career in regenerative farming. We work 8 hours days, 6 days week. There are morning and evening chores, siestas and other projects in-between. Some additional chores may be necessary during baby goat season. We always try to keep it fun. However, the health & welfare of our animals always take top priority.
Currently we are seeking volunteers for a 6 month commitment from November through May. That may be expanded to a year or more, as well as other possible permanent business opportunities for the right, like mined person or persons.
What volunteers can expect:
Food is provided. Mostly will consist of fruits of our labor.
Schedule:
Volunteers prepare their own breakfast before starting work. We work from 7 to 12, break for lunch from 12 to 1, continue work from 1 to 3. The next 2 hours from 3 to 5 are free. Evening chores and tasks are done from 5 to 6. The evening meal is prepared by volunteers after evening chores. There is always something to do, however we have learned it is important to respect personal time off!
Chores:
Chores include all aspects of daily animal husbandry and care. Baby goats beginning arriving in November may require some additional daily care. The dairy operation, cheese kitchen and food gardens are also daily chores. Other duties include but are not limited to domestic duties in Volunteer Camp Alpha (VCA) and the house, (ie cooking and cleaning up after), regular ranch maintenance, special infrastructure projects, and preparing for farmers markets and or CSA boxes.
Accommodation:
A tidy 30 foot travel trailer that sleeps 7 is surrounded with gardens and trees. There are bathroom facilities and laundry facilities are at the house. A current project is the development of a composting toilet and outdoor shower in “Volunteer Camp Alpha”.
Internet access:
There is LIMITED satellite internet that is restricted to surfing & emails. Voice over applications are an option with advanced and express permission. Voice only, no video. .
Our location and other things to consider:
It is important to understand that Whitt’s End Rancho’s location is very rustic and remote. Not a place for the faint of heart or those with issues with wildlife such as bats, spiders, scorpions, snakes just to name a few. We are 30 miles from San Jose del Cabo on a dirt road. The price of living in paradise! 2 miles away you will fine the Sea of Cortez or an amazing arroyo calling for exploration. The days are full of ranch activities & the nights are tranquil & perfect for studying and self growth. The fall, winter and spring temperatures are generally in the 70s and low 80s during the days, rarely dropping into the low 50s at night.
