Farm's Location and Address: La Querencia, Cofradia de Acuitapilco, Nayarit, Mexico.
Unfortunately there is no street name and number, however our farm is easy to find.
Driving from Santa Maria del Oro towards the lagoon our farm is located on the road
which leads to the town La Cofradia de Acuitapilco, after passing the river we are located
to the right side. (We will pick up the volunteers from Santa Maria del Oro so they know the way.)
Description of the Farm: We are a cooperative farm near the volcanic lagoon of Santa Maria
del Oro. Permaculture is our goal! Sharing knowledge is our mission!
Jointly we own 7 hectares of land which include a lemon grove, a barn, an antique
watering system, 3 tanks for fish production, 3 bee hives, 10 chickens, 6 horses, 3 cows, 1pig and 2 dogs. Currently we are harvesting hibiscus flowers for tea and corn. All year round we harvest lemons and different
types of edible plants. Currently we are working on a gray water treating system and developing some
new terraced farming areas. We need to switch our Queen bee since it has been africanized. We are preparing for a group of students who will visit to experience a week of rural life in march 2016. Two
of our cooperationists have left temporarily so we need help.
Work required from WWOOFers: Mainly we are looking for people who are interested in
helping on all chores around the farm, the work is more fun if it is done as a team. Feeding
the animals, watering the plants and cooking. We are especially eager about our new gray water
treatment system and the terraced farming, and for this we need a lot of help.
We are also aiming to improve all accommodations in the farm so this could be a chore as well.
Harvesting corn, lemons or other crops on occasion.
Description of accommodations and meals provided: Together we built a house by using
the method of "Hyperadobe." This system isolates well from the heat and the Palm tree roof
gives it a mushroom look. The bedroom is located on the upper level. Up to 2 people can live
in this small home. We also inherited an original adobe home from the previous owner, this home
is already equipped with a wood saving stove. This second home hosts up to 2 people. We will provide a warm meal for lunch, dinner and breakfast will have to be prepared by the WWOOFers themselves. All meals are vegetarian. Our aim is to consume our own crops, however we will go to town and buy more diversity in order to keep ourselves healthy.
Special Requirements: The minimal stay is of 7 days and the maximum stay is of 3 months.
It would be best if the WWOOFers could bring their own working clothes, leather or gardening
gloves, small knife, mosquito repellent, sun lotion and a hat. We are a young team and like to
celebrate, however if WWOOFers are repeatedly seen working drunk we will have to say goodbye.
Santa Maria del Oro Lagoon is a magical place. There will be time on the weekends to enjoy the
crystalline water and explore the waterfalls located around the area.
