Profile Information

What is your previous experience with Organic Agriculture and Sustainable Development?
I have worked as a volunteer at an income-sharing intentional community farm called Twin Oaks in Louisa, Virginia which grows organic produce for the community and seeds for a small heirloom seeds business. At this farm I learned about gardening, seed propagation, and cover crops. I also got to help build a chicken house and milk the community cows. Two years ago I worked at an organic berry farm and learned a lot from a retired crop & soil professor from Virginia Tech. We planted and raised blackberries, blueberries, golden & red raspberries, peaches and asparagus. Apart from these experiences, I have worked in community gardens, set up gardens as a job, volunteered and raised my own herbs and vegetables for consumption. My work with organic farming began as a child, my parents always raised huge vegetable gardens for us to use and tend to. Still, when I go to my parents house I help pick strawberries and tend to the garden. I am committed to a lifestyle which integrates practices which are healthy for individuals and the environment.
