Rancho el Sagrado is an ecotouristic project where the guests can feel and enjoy nature, they can also see the process to get our delicious coffee AND chocolate, walk in the mountain and next to the river, We also have traditional Mexica temazcal, oil therapy and human development experiences for our visitors. Our goal is to become a self-sustain farm protecting and respecting the nature. We have about 6 ha of organic coffee plantation and more than 100 ha of rainforest close to a nice river, 8 cabins, a common kitchen, dinningroom, a rustic kitchen, a Temazcal, we use solar energy to create our electricity and we are in the process of growing our own food with a little orchard, we have some banana trees, chiles, mangos, cacao, oranges, limes, soursoup and some other things, but to make this more productive, we need people with experience in permaculture to help us. One of our dreams Is to hace a Food forest.

We offer:

The WOOFriends can stay in one of our comfortable cabins, it is a shared cabin for two people with two double beds, bathroom, and a beautiful balcony outside the cabin. The cleaning of the cabin takes turns among the volunteers.

The food in the ranch normally is really delicious and vegetarian with local products like tostadas, tortillas, beans, vegetables, fuits, cheese, bread AND More delicious local food, also integral rice, pasta and grains and love, the combination of these ingredients creates delicious meals.

We offer one prepared meal per day and provide food for the volunteers to prepare breakfast and dinner in the common kitchen. It's always cool when everybody helps a little bit in the kitchen.

We are open to give and receive knowledge. We offer one Temazcal (sweatlodge) every month, we have a temazcal every full moon. If your stay coincides with this wonderful ceremony, you can join us at no cost.

Activities:

For now we require help in the harvest of mangoes, cacao and soursop, also for the creation of a small orchard. We will make different products with the fruits of the harvest, for example, jams, pickles, chocolate and more. We also require support in the kitchen for the preparation of daily meals. People with knowledge of carpentry and electricity are also welcome.

Some of our projects in mind are:

- Planting, recovery and maintenance of coffee plantations

- Planting of Cacao

- Food Forest

- Vegetable patch

- Water catchment

- Improvement and maintenance in cabins and common areas

- Preparation of food products with the fruits of the place

You are welcome to help us make these projects come true.

Now we are focused in:

- Marketing and strategies to bring more clients

- Keep growing the Food forest.

- Recovering the coffee plantation and makin better the experience of cacao and coffee tour.

- Fixing cabins and creating new chilling areas. We have again aaaaalot wood.

IF YOU ARE AFRAID OF INSECTS OR DON'T LIKE INSECTS THIS IS NOT THE RIGHT PLACE FOR YOU, WE HAVE AAAAAALOT OF WILDLIFE.

Times:

For applying we need to receive and send some e-mails before to explain the activity and to organize the stay, we consider that 2 weeks is the minimum time to do something significant but if somebody can do something faster, then we can talk about it. In this harvest season we can receive you immediately.

The area:

To get to Rancho El Sagrado it is necessary to take the deviation at km. 195 of road 131 (Oaxaca-Puerto Escondido), we are 800 meters from the main road. The closest town is called San Gabriel Mixtepec and the beautiful beaches of Puerto Escondido are 45 kilometers away.

We will send you the instructions so that you can get to the ranch in the easiest and most economical way, either from Puerto Escondido or from the city of Oaxaca.

Recomendations:

- Confortable shoes for walking inside the mountain and plastic boots for the rain season.

- Good mood and resilience. In the rainy season we have to adapt our activities according to the weather

- Hablar español es muy importante para conocer al equipo y trabajar mejor. Or have the availability to learn. In any case, there are people from the team at the Ranch who speak English and that makes communication easier.

TIMELINE NOTES

DECEMBER 2012

Two weeks ago the hurricane "Carlotta"  destroyed a lot of nature, so our coffee plantations need to be recovered, and now we have to get the wood from these beautiful trees that before we were protecting, so at this moment the most urgent activities are to recover our forest and plant. At some point, we will open again the place to the tourists, and then we will have other activities to do like maintenance, service, construction.

ENERO 2014

Now we are recovered from the hurricane, THANKS a lot to everyone who came to help us, now we are organizing the farm to receive more volunteers, the projects mentioned before are still in our minds but now we have a more important goal, to create a food forest, so we will have cool activities but first we need time to plan it, that is going to take the first months of the year. We apriciate your interest in our project y ojala podamos empezar a trabajar juntos a partir de abril.

SEPTEMBER 2014

We are really happy with all the help that we have received, it is a pleasure to share this place with people who loved nature, unfortunately at the moment we are not accepting volunteers, because we are giving more strength and structure to the project, is not clear yet when we will accept again your super help :(, thanks to everyone who came, I will change this message once we can work together again.

SEPTEMBER 2021

We are really happy to open again our doors to volunteers, if you are Carpenter you are perfect, we need also help in the reception and kitchen. We have the wish to keep receiving volunteers for a long time but we need someone who is willing to stay a long time with us and help us to share the knowledge with the next wwoofriends.

 MARCH 2023

We are happy to announce that many of the fruit trees that we planted in the past years are ready for harvest and we are open to volunteers, we mainly require permaculturists, carpenters, people who love to cook vegetarian food and cool people ready to enrich this self-sustaining project and be able to share more with the world.

We are a married couple who are seeking work study/internship on a farm in Mexico. Kevin is 44 and has extensive experience in the auto damage industry. He is very handy and can repair/improve most anything, from cars and motorcyles to home repair/landscaping and beyond. Jasmine is 35 and has been a yoga teacher for 10 years. We are both physically fit and are willing and able to work hard and learn quickly. We have a rescue dog named Gracie who is our only 'child'. Learning how to grow food and live sustainably is our goal. We are currently working and living on an organic farm in Arizona through September, are learning a lot here, and would like to head to Mexico in October. Please let us know if working on your farm is a possibility, and if it would be possible for a married couple to have more private accomodations. Gracias!

Sincerely, Kevin & Jasmine Bowman

Hola!

Firstly I'm sorry to see the devastaing impact of hurricane Carlotta on your farm.

I am Sam from London and am travelling to Mexico with my girlfriend Danielle, we are 25 and 26.

We are travelling to Mexico for a 6 month trip. We wish to be involved in Mexican culture, people, food and find out about the way of life.

I have experience working with biodynamic farming in India, and organic farming projects in London and wish to develop my knowledge of permaculture techniques. Danielle is a good Spanish speaker who has studied the politics of Latin America and is keen to find out more about Mexico.

We are both vegetarian, and I work in the kitchen of a busy London cafe, so we love food and growing! (and would love to know more about coffee production too) we are both fit healthy and prepared for a long investment into an interesting project.

Hasta luego

Sam

Buenos Dias!

Me llamo Guillermo. Soy estudiante de la salud publica en California, y planeo trabajar en una granja en oaxaca durante los mes de octubre y noviembre (nuevo o diez semanas). Hablo frances y un poco de espanol, pero quiero bien aprenderlo.

I hope to learn more about sustainable agriculture and permaculture in order to gain further insight into how to foster healthier lifestyle choices here in the US. I am a very hard worker with experience in house construction, painting, roofing/shingling, and some gardening. I am a fast learner and willing to take on any task.

Gracias por su respuesta!

Hola! /Channa
