WHAT IS IT AND HOW IT WORKS

WWOOF Mexico is a network linking travelers like you with organic farms in Mexico. By joining (purchasing a membership and creating a profile) WWOOF Mexico you get access to member farms.

Farms listed WWOOF Mexico are part of a world-wide effort to promote the concept of organic farming, sustainable agriculture and responsible consumer habits. As part of this effort, host farms offer WWOOF members the opportunity to learn by doing. Listed farms will host WWOOF members free of charge. As a guest in a WWOOF farm your learning experience is based on you participating in the daily chores of running the farm. In doing so, you can learn a variety of techniques employed by member farms including organic farming, Permaculture and Biodynamics. In addition to learning about organic farming, you can also learn about the local ecology and culture while getting to meet fun and interesting people.

Your daily chores at WWOOF farms may include harvesting, preparing soil for planting, milking, cleaning pens, digging trenches, maintaining fences and such; and generally involve about 5 to 7 hours per day, 5 to 6 days per week. Each farm has its own chores, rules and schedules.

To become a member of WWOOF Mexico you must: 1) Create a personal profile and 2) pay for the membership. Use the same email address for both.

WWOOF Mexico is affiliated to the International WWOOF Association (www.wwoof.org and www.wwoofinternational.org) which promotes environmentally friendly farming and consumer habits by helping bridge the gap between consumers and environmentally-responsible farmers. WWOOF Mexico compiles and publishes for its members a list of host farms throughout Mexico. Through our website, you can contact the farm(s) which you wish to visit and make the necessary arrangements for your stay.

To become a member of WWOOF Mexico please click on JOIN WWOOF Mexico at the top of the page. Click on one of the available payment links. One is for Mexico only ($20 USD) and the other is for the Joint membership ($33 USD) including Costa Rica, Mexico, Belize and Guatemala. Follow directions to make your membership fee payment online via Clickbank or PayPal. You will need to fill in your profile information at the website and choose a password for log in. A few days after your payment has been processed your membership will be approved and you will be granted access to the host farm list at the website. You may then log in at any time to look through the host farm descriptions and contact the farm managers. You need to contact each host farm directly to ask them any questions, check for availability and to arrange your visit.

As a WWOOFer (volunteer) you are responsible for your own safety and well being at all times.

WWOOFers are also responsible for all aspects of planning and executing their volunteer experience.

Be prepared, be cautious, be smart.

Research the farm and area thoroughly before committing to volunteering. Ask questions, request pictures, ask other WWOOFers.

Sample questions you might want to ask:

*Where will I sleep?

*What is a typical meal at your farm?

*How far is the nearest town?

*Is there cell phone reception?

*Is there a hospital nearby?

*What is the weather like When I plan to visit?

*What type of work will I do while I'm there?

* How many other WWOOFers will there be when I am there?

* As a WWOOF host farm you have committed to not charging or asking for any money, correct?

Tell your loved ones where and when you will be WWOOFing,  the name of the farm, the farm's contact information and when you plan on returning home.
