Farm in Autlán de Navarro, Jalisco 2

7th kilometer on the road from Autlan de Navarro hasta El Grullo. 800 meters away from El Mentidero
This is a fish farm and a roadside restaurant serving the fish we produce daily. We sell about 2 tons of fish a month to different restaurants, hostels and markets in Jalisco county.
We have 17 water tanks to raise and control the evolution of one type of freshwater fish, the tilapia fish. The exploitation is 1ha and we use about 500000 cubic meters of water.
We can host up to 8 woofers. We have a cabin with water and electricity in the farm that can be shared by 4 people while we also have student flats in the city center of Autlan equipped with all the amenities needed (kitchen and bathroom). The farm will be soon connected to the internet and you will be able to use the kitchen and the bathroom.
You will get your meals from the farm’s restaurant 3 times a day and you will be provided food if you need some.
Right now we want to develop a way to create our own food for the fish. The one we use now is organic but producing it would cost less money. We have the recipe and we tried it. All we need is to find a way to produce it on a bigger and more sustainable scale.
We are also looking into a way to use the algae produced by the fish’s CO2 as a fertilizer for aquaponic culture.
We intend to develop the culture of bamboo so as to use it as a base for the aquaponic culture.
And finally we want to get involved in bioconstruction using straw bales.
Our woofers will be involved in one or several of these activities and are welcome to learn how to produce fish in a sustainable way.
Our goal is to become autosufficient and sustainable while producing high quality fish.
We welcome any motivated people. Meanwhile it would be a plus if you have any knowledge in planting, cropping, creating bio diesel with algae or vegetal oils (We have a diesel generator that allows us to create our own electricity, making biodiesel would give us more autonomy).
The woofers are welcome to stay from 15 days up to a month and a half.
The farm is located 7km away from Autlán de Navarro, Carlos Santana´s birth place. It is also a developing city with a hospital, a university, a nice city center, bars, nice food and cultural activities. The weather is quite warm all year long. The city is a 2 hours drive from Guadalajara and 1 hour from the pacific seaside.
