COMPOSTAS DEL DUERO

Rancho Nuevo. Michoacán. México
Project Description: Compostas del Duero is a growing composting facility for regeneration of the eroded agricultural soils in consequence of conventional ways of production. This bioregion is the second largest productive valley in México so the production requirements, technification, and use of agrochemicals are huge; the main goal of compostas del duero is pushing further the practice on organic agriculture through the producers and farmers around the bioregion (around 5,000 hectares on high demand production). We compost on the Lübke method and using a lot of microorganisms harvested and grown by ourselves, so the final product is a reliable and very usable resource for regeneration of soils, besides that we're starting the part on extracts and compost teas to complement the activities and close the circle of full soil regeneration, the only foundation for doing real organic agriculture. The project as it's just starting has increased in demand for the product, the monthly production is around 50-80 tons. Next year we're planning to start producing around 100 tons/month.
WWOOFers activities: Help with organization, visiting producers and offering services and working with the net of farmers we’re already working with, bring new ideas into action and put hands on the "compost" to learn, improve and benefit both the WWOOFer and the project by reaching the highest quality on the composted final product and the spread of organic agriculture practices. We require them to be open to learn, research and have initiative enough to work as a team. Sometimes work will be manual (shoveling the piles of compost in order to get them oxygenated, help in establishing the organic orchard, etc). But the idea is to get involved into everyday labors. Sometimes WWOOFers will get involved with bioconstruction activities, due to we're growing, we're arranging a place of our own in order to get more room for us, so we'll be building a natural place to share.
Hosting: The WWOOFers will be hosted at my place... In this very moment I moved to a family house that I share with my sister and my folks but with enough room to host two up to three WWOOFers... In a few more months (maybe 3 or 4) will be able to enjoy the new natural place; it will be open for camping and to host two people inside the cottage. Full bathroom and kitchen with a fridge filled with fresh food everyday; consider that we are vegetarian.
Extra Info and Requirements: As the project is still new and have many growth areas to get involved into, we need people aware of what the change into a natural life means... We will try our best to keep you comfortable and happy. We suggest you to bring a tent or a hammock affording to spend time outdoors; as our space for hosting is still small we can get in communication so we can let you know the availability of beds if you don't want to camp or so.
We would like to share experiences, grow with you and be part of your shifting process into a more natural life whether you are already a permaculturist expert or just someone willing to learn, we're all the same.
We'll be building a temazcal in our natural place, so if you know some songs, if you play some instrument, if you do some dance, please be sure you'll be also welcome as a part of the other side of permaculture and natural living which is the inner knowledge and the purification of the spiritual being. The natural place (whether is in a bed or camping) is also open to meditation and yoga practitioners willing to take care of the small forest garden we'll be establishing in the natural place).
