New project for a demonstrative farm, semi off-grid (10km from towns), jungle ecosystem all around us, solar power, wind turbine to pump water. organic horticulture + agroforestry, 50 hectares reforestation (monitoring of native trees, planting, weeding, watering, clearing paths, fire barrier). Farm active all year

Main crops: tomatoes, peppers, pumpkins, spinach, lettuce, beans, yams.

Work needed from WWOOFers: planting weeding, watering, gathering crops, composting, cleaning of chicken zone, reforesting, help in the kitchen, cleaning volunteer area, roads maintenance, construction (when applicable), knowledge exchange (weekly gatherings), off site visits (other projects)

Work hours- 8 (we usually start work at 6am and finish at 2pm depending on weather). 6 days per week (Sundays off).

Minimum 2 week stay, no limit (check first for available accommodations)

Lodging: the volunteers center is a 36 square meter Mayan palapa or hut with bed or hammock, you can also set up a tent here. There is a composting toilet and an outdoor shower.

Meals: Two meals a day (6am, 1pm) veggie menu. Cooking is a family activity, we take turns to help out (this includes doing the dishes afterwards )

Rules and restrictions: respect for wildlife and other farm members/volunteers, no waste, save water, save cooking gas, be punctual, all cleaning and personal care products must be organic/biodegradable, use tools with care.

Special requirements: bring protective clothing (boots, jeans and t-shirts + a hat to protect you from the sun). The site is fit ad safe for work but if you feel it is necessary, you should check for a medical care insurance which can cover you here in Mexico.

Weather is tropical, dry and tropical humid, depending on season. Heavy rains from July to Sept and some cold nights during December and January. Dry season is very warm (40 celsius). There is no internet or mobile coverage here, you can go to either Yaxcaba or Libre Union where there are a couple of places providing access. There are a lot of natural pools or cenotes in the area, as well as archaeological sites (even some unaccounted for), we try to take a tour every two weeks or so, depending on work. expenses during these tours are each ones responsibility.
