EL SALVIAR


Jalisco has various sustainable community projects. Teopantli Kalpulli is one of the first collective projects in Mexico that emerged in the late 1980s to intentionally return to a sustainable rural lifestyle.

About the garden: Levi is a young eco-architect who has been studying horticulture since primary school and decided to create a garden with the intention to produce fresh, local and organic food.

The area cultivated extends 1000 m2. There are approximately 100 species of edible and medicinal plants. Agriculture techniques used range from those that require no intervention to intensive agriculture, Permaculture and traditional Mexican agriculture.

The climate is very sunny and during the summer is the rainy season.

Principal activities include: maintenance such as weeding, watering plants, cleaning, Bio-construction, composting, selecting seeds, planting/sowing, maintaining trees, harvesting seasonal plants, etc. During free time, it is possible to get involved in community service activities.

Work hours: 5/Day

Lodging: Camping space. The house is a rustic style Mexican home.

Meals: vegetarian breakfast included daily
Language: Basic Spanish is required

Jalisco has some of the most significant cultural attractions of México, offering a wide range of activities and excursions to visit nearby our project.

1:15 hrs away: Guadalajara City to the north (worth visiting for its architecture and unique quality of life)

1:15hrs away: Pueblo de Tequila. The area where the drink originated.

1:15hrs away: Huichomontañas. Prehispánic round Pyramids from the indigenous group the Huicholes.

1:20hrs away: Lago Chapala. The biggest lake in Mexico- swim, walk along the board walk with local artesans, have lunch (famous for their white fish called charal), visit art galleries of Ajijic

1:20hrs: The dry lagoons of Sayula. One of the best places in Mexico to go paragliding and hangliding

20 min away: Balneario termal Los Volcanes/ Volcanic Hot Springs – water is 50º C and it is surounded by mountains.

15 minutes away: Reserve, Bosque La primavera. If you like walking, running or bicycling, there are km and km of Si te gusta hacer caminata o bicicleta hay km y km of paths

0.20 Hrs. San isidro Mazatepec is an Exhacienda in a región that produces sugar cane, corn, peanuts, avocado, tomatoes, chayote. On Mondays, there is a produce market where local farmers and vendors come to sell their products.
