What is your previous experience with Organic Agriculture and Sustainable Development?
I have volunteered with 2 non-profit organic farms in the greater San Francisco Bay area. One in San Francisco called The Free Farm, where I focused on nursery work/watering/transplants. The other in Santa Cruz, the Homeless Garden Project’s Natural Bridges Farm, where I volunteered as a cook, preparing soups & salads primarily from ingredients harvested from the garden. I WWOOFed in 2008 along the California coast from Corralitos to Ventura, building planter boxes, composting, preparing food, tending gardens, planting seeds & meeting interesting home grown people. I am a bit of a home gardener, growing vegetables, herbs, greens from seed, tuning into eating more seasonally and locally. I’ve developed an interest in working with some of the more medicinally promising plants I've stumbled upon, and hope to contribute to growing many more gardens and eating well with others.
What are your reasons for joining WWOOF Mexico?
Learning about sustainable living and agriculture, Getting to know Mexico better
What do you want the farms and fellow WWOOFers to know about you?
I’m hardworking, resourceful, creative & looking forward to getting 'off the clock'. I've travelled deep into Mexico before, San Miguel D'allende, Mexico D.F, Teotihuacan... but have more of an interest in exploring the Yucatan. My Spanish is rudimentary, although I’ve taken a class a few years ago and am eager to become more fluent. Some of my creative work is centered around woodworking & design. I hope to offer these skills as well as get my hands in the dirt and reinforce my current path with more sustainable and innovative permaculture practices.
