Profile Information

What is your previous experience with Organic Agriculture and Sustainable Development?
I earned my degree in Environmental Studies with a focus in Agroecology and Education at the University of California Santa Cruz. I have learned about some of the detriments of our current conventional food system and about alternatives for creating sustainable food systems. I have had the opportunity to intern on local organic farms, to take classes on our campus’ renowned organic farm and garden, and to begin to teach about sustainable food systems in local classrooms and educational farms throughout the Santa Cruz area. I have experience working at Farmer's Markets, selling direct-trade, shade-grown coffee, and dry-farm wine and olive oil. I have begun to learn how to grow my own food, and I have learned some methods for designing and managing ecologically sound gardens and small farms. I have had a garden at my home for the past two years, as well as different types of compost systems, and have a personal commitment to buying local organic foods and cooking my meals.
What are your reasons for joining WWOOF Mexico?
Learning about sustainable living and agriculture, Getting to know Mexico better
What do you want the farms and fellow WWOOFers to know about you?
I am eager to learn more about various farming practices taking place throughout the world, especially permaculture. I also am very interested in pursuing medicinal herbology from a variety of cultural perspectives. I am a student at UCSC’s Holistic Health Program, and am about to earn my certification as a massage practitioner. I would love to be able to share my passion for healing bodywork as well as sustainable food wherever I end up! I am also looking to immerse myself in a more traditional or rural Mexican community, where I can experience the local lifestyle, practice my Spanish, and see the natural beauty of the land. I am looking to come to a farm this summer, as soon as the beginning of June. I am interesting in staying 1 to 3 months. I am particularly interested in working on educational farms or with any projects involving students.
