What is your previous experience with Organic Agriculture and Sustainable Development?
Currently wwoofing at a dairy goat ranch in southern baja, caring for the goats and making all kinds of goats cheese that we sell at three different farmers markets. This is my first wwoofing experience but I am absolutely loving it. I'm learning so much but have a lot more to learn.
What are your reasons for joining WWOOF Mexico?
Learning about sustainable living and agriculture, Getting to know Mexico better
What do you want the farms and fellow WWOOFers to know about you?
Not afraid of a bit of hard work in exchange for as much knowledge I can gain.
We will be getting really busy in October through May and needing all the helping hands we can manage. The weather in October is the beginning of Baja perfect. Warm during the day and in the upper 60s lower 70s in the evening. We have need with care for the goats through milking, in the cheese kitchen and with domestic work. Whitt's End Rancho Organic Farmer's Market will be re-opening the 1st Friday in November. I will need help with that as well. Not sure how many wwoofers will be here in October but we would be pleased to have you for at least 30 days and more if you are enjoying it. Currently we have a tent camper that accommodates two very comfortably and are working to get our camper set up as well. You can check out photos of Whitt's End Rancho on Facebook.
Look forward to hearing from you with your itinerary.
Hi Flo, Friday the 7th is good, Saturday the 8th is better to pick you up as I will already be in town for a farmer's market. We pick up all our WWOOFers from the airport because we are so remote it is unrealistic and unreasonable to require you to get to the ranch otherwise. We are about an hour from the airport on a very bumpy dirt road. So get me your flight info and we'll bring you in and make sure you are back in time to catch your departing flight.
We should have 2 other wwoofers at the time you arrive. Thomas will be departing on or about the 20th of September, the same day we will be picking up 2 more wwoofers. So then you wwoofers will be 4.
We are about 2 miles from the beach. The ranch sits upon a slope overlooking the Sea of Cortez. Close enough you can hear the waves breaking on the shore in the mornings and evenings.Easily walking distance. We try to get to our favorite snorkel beach at least once a week. This is about 7 miles north in the Cabo Pulmo national park and coral reef reserve. The water is about 85 degrees now. We try to load everyone up once a week if possible for some sort of fun and adventure. This is the warmest season of the year in Los Cabos, but it will begin to cool off at least in the evenings, sometime in September. Please be aware, this is hurricane/rainy season. They say if we are going to have a hurricane, it most likely will happen in September. I am happy to say for the first time in 5 years, we got a lot of rain over a 3 day period. As a result, the cactus are blooming and the desert greening. We hope to have more rain.
As far as what to bring, light weight clothing, long sleeved light colored or white cotton shirts are good to keep the sun off. Shorts, tanks, bathing suit, sundress, sun hat. Teeva style foot wear and maybe a pair of flip flops and or sneakers, something that can be kicked off, as we don't wear shoes in the house especially any that have been in the goat pens and chicken coop. You will spend time in the kitchen, dining room and the wwoof bathroom is also inside. If we get serious weather everyone will be inside or under the porch, that wraps 3/4s way around our very small house. Bring sunscreen and sunglasses, a sheet should be plenty to sleep with and I have extra blankets if it were to cool off enough to need one. The girls here right now brought their own pillows which they are more comfortable with. I do have extra, so this is up to to you. I know how long the flight is to London. Travel light as possible. You will likely be sleeping in the tent camper and the guys in a tent. The couple coming on Sept 20th are bringing a tent for their use.
So let me know when you have an itinerary. I will need the name of the date of arrival, airline, the flight number, place of origin and arrival time.
We are really excited to have you come stay with us Flo. I think you will enjoy your time at your Whitt's End....(=
