What is your previous experience with Organic Agriculture and Sustainable Development?
I grew up and studied university in an suburban environment that strongly supports local, organic, sustainable living. Agriculture and working with the earth has always been a strong influence in my life. For the past five years I have worked and lived on farms in Colorado, Northern California, and Oregon.
What are your reasons for joining WWOOF Mexico?
Learning about sustainable living and agriculture, Getting to know Mexico better
What do you want the farms and fellow WWOOFers to know about you?
I am a hard worker and a positive person who is eager to learn more about organic, sustainable living, as well as gain a greater understanding of Latin America, speciafically my neighboring country, Mexico.

Communal Living

I believe community is one of the most important things in life. Many things can be accomplished when working together. That also includes working with the earth. Working hard together using organic and sustainable methods, life progresses for the individual, the community, and the earth. I want to build a relationship with organic farms in Mexico so I can meet like minded individuals who desire furthering sustainable communities.

Hey Thomas, I would like to have you come work at Whitt's End Rancho.  We are always looking for like minded and motivated people here at the rancho.  We are entering into the warm season.  This means temps in the 90s and humid.   We are desperately in need of rain and willing to endure the humidity and bugs that come with it.   We have need for help with the goats and chickens currently as well as fencing and other infrastructure projects.  Our current WWOOFer plans to move on soon.  He's been a gift to us since March.  That said I have a couple of questions for you.  What time frame did you have in mind?  Do you have any reservations about working working with goats including milking?  Do you consider yourself self manageable?  I ask the last question because we are struggling to get our dairy business off the ground and my husband has been working in town during the week.  This leaves me to run the ranch solo.  It would be a huge benefit if I could leave you with a task list for an entire day one day a week, while I go to town to sell our incredibly delicious dairy products.    This  area is an incredible place with amazing energy and great people.  You will find you have lots time of your own with the beach and arroyos practically vacant.  We should have a tent camper available once Benz leaves us.  But in the mean time it does sleep two comfortably.    On a completely different subject, my niece Heather  Zank lived in Fort Collins for a few years.  She has since left and moved to Texas.

Awesome!  I want to be sure you understand that we are REALLY SUPER RURAL (an hour to town on a dirt road rural but only 2 miles to a wonderful beach) and it's going to be hot and humid, and hopefully with summer rain greener than any other time of the year.   I need someone for the time frame you have in mind and with your skill set.   If you have facebook, I would like you to go and look at the photos of Whitt's End Rancho there so you will see our little redneck operation.  Also, on facebook there is a link to goggle earth map to see the area.  There will be some surfers on the coast and some diehard locales like us, other ranchers and a few others in the hood so to speak that time of year.   Our market caters to the "snowbirds" and we are crazy busy from November through April.  But there is always plenty of ranch work year round.  The animals are the root of our business. and seeking our people who connect and take pleasure caring for them is our focus.  I am stoked to discuss a recurring working arrangement.

So have a look at us and get back to me.  I hope I haven't scared you off.

Look forward to hearing from you soon,

Lisa

PS do you snorkel or dive?  Perfect time of year for it here.  Water will be really warm by then.

okay its on!    Bring your own laptop we supply the internet.  The tent camper is vacant as of tomorrow so you may want to bring a sleeping bag, but it will be warm enough with just sheets.  Work clothes, beach attire and by the looks of your profile photo lots of sun screen.  Have a great mountain hike.

Hi Thomas.  Hope you had a great hike this past weekend.  If you can take the bus all the way to San Jose del Cabo, about 3 hours further south of La Paz, I can pick you up.  Just provide me your arrival time.  We are super excited to have you coming.  Let me know about San Jose del Cabo.  That is where we go into "town" to sell our dairy products and do our shopping.  No stores or taco shops around us for miles.

PS no phones here on the East Cape.  I do have a cell phone that works only in town and I have a magic jack that some times works but usually it does not.  We can Skype,  If you have a cell phone with Skype on it.  I am lisawhittbaja on Skype.

my cell phone for in town is 011 52 624 182 4286.  The first 3 numbers are the country code for Mexico, the 52 is like the area code then the last 10 are my phone number.

No hay problema, Early arrivals are better for me, best time would be late morning early afternoon.  I plan around the milking schedule which is 7 to 8 ish am and 6 to 7ish pm.  I takes me about an hour to get into SJ.   I can fetch ya, shop for food and get my beater truck off the paved roads early.  I hate to drive it in town because the tail lights don't work, break lights yes, tail lights no...this is to be expected from a vehicle the drives the Palo Escapeta road and the East Cape road weekly.  At this point she's pretty much zip tied together...lol

Hi Thomas, I will pick you up at the bus station.  I am 99% sure I know where this is.   Do you have an arrival time yet?  Will you have a cell phone and lap top with you?  FYI there is free internet in the town square of most of the larger cities in Mexico.

lol, happen to be on line when this came in so this is a super speedy response....noon is great!  I am thinking the bus station is across  and down the street from Walmart of all places.  This street is called the "down street" in SJ.  If you were to walk to the bottom and turn left, withing a few blocks you would find yourself in historic San Jose down town.  Where one with a light complexion may be invited into each and every shop by the store keepers.  I tell you this so if you were to arrive hours before noon, you have an idea in which direction you may find a welcoming and lovely town area.
