My name is Thomas Prohl and my partner Paige Driscoll and I are looking for a thriving farm on the West Coast of Mexico to work for a cultural and boarding exchange. I believe that our experiences on different Central American farms appeal to various and changing ideas of sustainability. By primarily advocating local food awareness, we can better understand specific environmental conservation and social equity concerns for the given region.
Both Thomas and I have Wwoofed before in Norway and Ireland. We have also interned at Maya Mountain Research Farm in Belize and lived at Finca Carolina in Uvita, Costa Rica. We have had extraordinary experiences with our past hosts and some regrettable ones. However, we have learned to specify for a “working farm” when looking for a proper host. Although I don’t mind painting and baking, we hope to learn more about Mexican farming practices that is culturally and environmentally responsible.
Thomas and I are both vegetable farmers in the Northeastern U.S. We know how to work hard, have fun, and maintain a positive attitude when times are tough. We speak some Spanish but hope to learn more in our time in Mexico beginning this January 2016. We plan to travel back to Finca Carolina by April and diffuse what we have learned on the various fruit trees such as pruning and how to get rid of ants.
We can bring new energy and ideas to your projects and farming endeavors while also taking away new knowledge of how things are done on your farm. Please let us know if you would be willing to allow us to work with your team this January.
