LOCATED IN COMMUNITY OF PILATENO IN XILITLA, SAN LUIS POSOSI, MEXICO
We live in the town of Xilitla, in the Huasteca Potosina, in a lovely cloud forest. Our main crop is Spirulina Algae, the most nutritious food on the planet. We dedicate 90% of our time to this. However, we are also starting an Agroforestry project, and larger Spirulina ponds, on a 40-acre piece of land near an indigenous (Nahuatl) community outside Xilitla where we are planting exotic fruit and many kinds of trees and plants.
Work required from WWOOFers,
Woofers work 5 hours a day, on a schedule we plan upon arrival based on current activities and seasons. In general it will involve several different activities, including tending the Spirulina culture, harvesting, dehydrating, (eating!) and also planting trees, helping with the nursery and preparing land to plant. Of course some household activities are also involved such as composting, cooking and cleaning up.
Accommodation and meals provided,
We have a guest bedroom with its own bathroom and “study” in our house. We provide vegetarian meals, with some cheese and eggs. You will also eat a lot of fresh organic Spirulina, and get to experiment with making things out of Spirulina.
There is a lot to do and see in this region, and also if you sell handmade products there is a tourist market nearby. We are a 15 minute walk from the Jardin Surrealista de Edward James or “Las Pozas” (google it) which is quite an interesting place, with waterfalls and swimming holes.
Our only rules are no smoking or cooking meat inside the house. We have 2 small children, so patience is also required! Our ideal length of stay is 2 weeks, with a conversation at the end for possible extension depending on our activities. We have worked on many farms in the past and have had many types of experiences, we would like to make yours as positive as possible and exchange lots of knowledge.
