Profile Information

What is your previous experience with Organic Agriculture and Sustainable Development?
I have worked for about a month at a couple of sustainable agriculture sites in Puerto Rico as an independent/lonely traveler. I am a civil engineer and will be starting a PhD program in Agricultural engineering in January 2014. Someday I will be an expert agricultural hydrologist, but today I am just a curious kid who wants to get dirty and learn about the mother earth. From an engineering standpoint, sustainability is seen as just another design constraint, and that can be frustrating because it needs to be more important. I have been involved in composting and bioreactor projects targeted toward the developing world as part of my undergraduate education, as well as sustainability projects unrelated to agriculture such as wind energy development. I take a more radical approach to sustainability than the average engineer and I am informed by the writings of Wendell Berry, Gary Snyder, and the folks at the US Green Building Council.
What are your reasons for joining WWOOF Mexico?
Learning about sustainable living and agriculture, Getting to know Mexico better
What do you want the farms and fellow WWOOFers to know about you?
I have always wanted to go to Mexico and have been able to study Spanish and some Chicano literature in college. It is obvious that agriculture has played a huge role in the relationship between the U.S. and Mexico and I would like to WWOOF in California and Texas as well. It is my dream to somehow combine my interest in Latino and Chicano cultures with whatever I end up doing in the agricultural industry.

Hi Caroline,

I would love to have to come down to work on the farm in October.  The longer that you could stay the better.  I will tell you, water is a major issue here!  I am just developing the farm and would love to have you help me put in the drip systems.  I love the photos on your page, especially the shade cloth held up by palos, it looks just like here!

Please email me at larosadelasbarras@gmail.com, ok

Thanks, Gail
