La Rosa Organic Farm in Barras de Piaxtla, Sinaloa is looking for WWOOFers to volunteer starting the beginning of September, 2016. You can see the farm on our Facebook page at: https://www.facebook.com/larosadelasbarrasfarm/ and at our webpage at: larosaorganicos.com. We have been having WWOOFers volunteer here for the last four years.
There is no application fee, I will accept anyone who is willing to work and follow a few rules. The minimum time that I accept people is for one month, because it takes that long for anyone who has no experience to learn what to do. There is no maximum stay and I have had people stay as long as a year. The farming season is from September to May and I will start accepting people September 1 this year. My first language is English, but I speak Spanish also, as do all of La Rosa’s workers and everyone in the village.
You are responsible for your transportation, personal products and alcohol if you want it. I pay for all food, but limited meat because it is so expensive. The volunteers all share an apartment upstairs in my house on the hill and it is coed with possibly both sexes sleeping in the same room, depending on who is there at the same time.
I limit my volunteers to 4 because the place is small. Everyone has to share the apartment, sometimes with more than one person sharing a bedroom. Right now I am adding beds so hopefully it will be comfortable for everyone to sleep. Everyone does their own cooking, sharing the food and kitchen and are responsible for keeping the apartment clean. I do have a washing machine for clothes, but no dryer. There is limited wifi available in the house, but it is cellular so limited (no streaming) and sometimes unreliable. So far I have one young man from Mexico coming September 11.
The work is varied, depending on the season and what is needed. It is mostly hard work in the garden. It is very hot from September through November so we work early in the morning from 6:30 am. The volunteers work 30 hours per week, 5 hour per day 6 days per week, or can work their 30 in 5 days so that they can have two days off.
When the Mazatlan Organic Market opens in the middle of November everyone has to work on Friday all day to harvest. There is other processing work to be done also, but most of that is done by my employees in the restaurant which you also can see on La Rosa's website.
I am sorry but La Rosa is not accepting WWOOFers this year unless they are serious interns that want to learn organic farming and are willing to commit to 6 months of internship.
If you are interested in pursuing an internship, please email me with your experience and references to larosaorganicos@gmail.com.
Thanks, Gail

Right now I am renting out the apartment by the night because I have no volunteers. You can see it on La Rosa's website at: http://www.larosadelasbarras.com/id48.html
