What is your previous experience with Organic Agriculture and Sustainable Development?: I live in Oakland, California which is a pioneering community in addressing food justice through urban garden and farm collectives. It is so exciting! I have my own organic home garden and for the last couple years have worked in ecological restoration which may not focus on growing food, but has given me a whole-nature perspective on land management. For example, I understand the importance of soil, water retention and beneficial insects. In 2016 I earned my master's degree in geography with a focus in natural resource management, so I am familiar with principles of Sustainable Development. Practically speaking, I know how to use hand tools and many power tools and love to work hard. I am happy digging holes and clearing brush! In April of 2018 I worked on a very small ranch in Baja California Norte where I helped build compost, tend the garden, and care for the horses.

What are your reasons for joining WWOOF Mexico?: Learning about sustainable living and agriculture, Getting to know Mexico better

What do you want the farms and fellow WWOOFers to know about you?: I am passionate about contributing to systems and practices that improve the lives of everyone, including non-humans. We are all in this together! There is no creature too insignificant and no such thing as an ordinary moment. Humans live in relationship to the land and natural world, so we should build connections that nurture the soil, provide habitat and support pollinators. In doing so, we nurture our own bodies and collective spirit. At this moment in my life, I am grateful to have the opportunity to travel and learn more about sustainable farming practices. Because I love learning about other cultures, working in Mexico seems like the perfect, immersive experience. Plus, I need to improve my Spanish! I am excited to join like-minded folks in making this beautiful world of ours even more beautiful.
