What is your previous experience with Organic Agriculture and Sustainable Development?
Greetings Wwoof Mexico, and wonderful farmers of Mexico! I'm Nina, and I'm eager to work with you this late February or early March for at least a month. Here's a bit about me: Throughout my life I have always been interested and possessed an innate appreciation of the natural world. I grew up half of the time in rural Langley, BC on a 5 acre property, and I've dreamed of rural living ever since. I spent a couple of years out of high school living a rural farm in the interior of British Columbia, Canada--where I was born. I helped plant vegetables, weed the property, drove the tractor to hay the fields, and harvested the vegetables as well as fruit from the trees. A couple of years later, I enrolled in a Permaculture Certificate course on the Sunshine Coast in BC. Here I learned and developed my love and appreciation not only for plants and the Earth, but for my peers, community, and myself. We designed, planted, maintained, and harvested a food bank Permaculture community garden and developed and implemented sustainable ecological education curriculums, as well as vegetable and herb gardens for 6 local elementary schools. We built recycling stations, created theatrical plays about various ecological topics with the children, and many other fun and creative ways for them to learn more about the importance of sustainable resource management and a connection and respect for the planet. For 5 years I've worked as a self-employed sub-contracted landscape gardener here in Vancouver. I mostly deal with shrubs and perennials, annuals, bulbs of the non-edible variety. :( I would like to gain more hands on knowledge and reinvigorate my Permaculture and vegetable gardening skills and my passion for a more meaningful gardening career! I worked on WWOOF farms in BC when I was 18 years old and gained a sense of wonder and appreciation as well as deep gratitude toward farm living. My life just isn't as great without a true connection to the natural world, and learning how to be self-sufficient, while helping to create a harmonic balance between humans and mother Earth.
What are your reasons for joining WWOOF Mexico?
Learning about sustainable living and agriculture, Getting to know Mexico better
What do you want the farms and fellow WWOOFers to know about you?
I have backpacked throughout Mexico and have a fondness for the culture, the art, and of course, the climate. I very recently returned from a 9 day trip to Loreto, Mexico and have decided that it is a great time for me to return, work and connect with farm life again, while taking care of myself through the benefits of a hotter climate and more sunlight. I also hope to tap into my creativity while spending time down South. I speak some basic Spanish, and with some more exposure I am eager to learn more! I am a pleasant person, passionate, with a good sense of what feels right. I am not a stranger to physical labor. I am hands on when it comes to learning. I thrive best when I feel connected to the planet through rural and farm living. I love animals, I am mostly vegan, but can also be totally fine with being a vegetarian. The only restriction I have where animals are concerned is that I'd ask to not be present if an animal were to be killed, and from the subsequent processing of their bodies. I am fine with egg collection and milking. :) I have a driver's license and I speak french pretty fluently. I am considerate, respectful of others, I aim to communicate in a healthy and life affirming way. I know how to laugh at myself, and have keen observation skills. I am honest and forthright person, and I try my best to be a positive, open-hearted leader in the world..
