Profile Information

What is your previous experience with Organic Agriculture and Sustainable Development?
Raised by keen gardeners, so very well-acquainted with growing vegetables and fruits at my family home in Yorkshire (in the North of England). Pretty handy when it comes to physical tasks such as clearing land, weeding, repairing fences, and building walls, etc. An outdoors kind of person in general - physically fit and active and not afraid to get muddy. Also very interested in good food and fresh, organic ingredients. Very happy around children, having done lots of teaching work. Still lots to learn in terms of permaculture pratices, taking care of chickens and livestock, beekeeping, and the management of large plots of land.
What are your reasons for joining WWOOF Mexico?

What do you want the farms and fellow WWOOFers to know about you?
I work for a television production company in London, where we make a documentary series called ‘Escape to the Wild’ for the UK broadcaster, Channel 4. The programmes tell the inspirational stories of British families and couples who have quit the rat race and moved overseas to live a more pared down existence, off-the-grid, and closer to nature. My small team is currently searching for suitable stories and locations to feature in a second series. The ideal kind of case study would involve a British family or couple living overseas in a self-built (or simple) home, which is off-the-grid in terms of water and power. We are very interested in exploring sustainable living and self-sufficiency, so would love to feature Brits who are growing their own herbs, vegetables, and fruits - and possibly raising animals for meat, eggs, and dairy - or fishing etc. We would like to look at renewable energies, permaculture and conservation projects, aquaponics, and other green ideas. These are not strict criteria, so each case study needn't tick every box, but this is a guide to give a sense of the themes the programmes would explore. The 'human' story is also key, so we would like to hear about the hard work, motivations, and joys involved in relocating from the UK to an area of natural beauty overseas. Maybe your own story could be a good fit for this series, or perhaps other people you know might be interested in taking part? If you'd simply like to find out a bit more information in the first instance, feel free to drop us a line to ask for our FAQs. Or we'll be more than happy to talk through things with you, without roping anyone into anything! We hope the WWOOFing community might be helpful in the course of our research and we are grateful for all ideas and suggestions.
