Profile Information

What is your previous experience with Organic Agriculture and Sustainable Development?
After high school I spent some time working on organic farms throughout Western Canada. I studied International Development Studies and Anthropology at Trent University, Canada. Later, I studied in Ecuador and worked with a conservation NGO on a Natural Reserve. Surrounding the reserve was an organic agriculture project, apiaries, fair trade coffee and other sustainable development projects in place. I have previously maintained a plots in community gardens, and am currently involved in buiding a greenhouse/aquaculture system.
What are your reasons for joining WWOOF Mexico?
Learning about sustainable living and agriculture, Getting to know Mexico better
What do you want the farms and fellow WWOOFers to know about you?
As a university student I studied International Development studies, with focus on the environment in the context of Latin America. I've spent a considerable amount of time living and working in South America. Living in South America, demonstrated to me the importance of supporting small farmers and local sustainable agriculture. Personally, I've become more and more concerned about the concentration of power in our global food system, and the decaying quality and safety of the foods we eat. As a result local sustainable agriculture has become a central interest for me in recent years. I'm really excited to learn more about sustainable agriculture, permaculture, biodynamic farming, sustainable building and all the other things that I can't even guess I'll be learning about. Also, i'm very excited to be doing it in the context of Mexico. Getting to know local agriculturalist, speaking spanish, and meeting other likeminded travellers. Can't wait!

Hi! Do you have any advice for wwoofing in Mexico? I'm planning to be in Mexico roughly Jan 6 - Jan 27 but I'm having trouble deciding where to go. Some places I've looked at on this site are Tzucacab, Bosque Village, and Quintaroo in Cancun. Have you had good experiences?
