What is your previous experience with Organic Agriculture and Sustainable Development?
I have volunteered on a organic small holding that worked with disabled and unemployed along with ex-offenders. I have built a house with low embedded energy and renewable technologies. I completed much of the construction myself. This included redoing the plumbing that my plumber failed to get right! I did a fair amont of the joinery as well. I really enjoy working with my hands and brain.
What are your reasons for joining WWOOF Mexico?
Learning about sustainable living and agriculture, Getting to know Mexico better
What do you want the farms and fellow WWOOFers to know about you?
Hi my name is Oliver. I've travelled extensively throughout the world. I have a strong leaning towards green technology and organic farming. I have volunteered on an organic small holding that was set up to help a range of disadvantaged individuals including unemployed, ex-offenders, recovering alchohol and drug misusers. I have project managed and part built my own house to the best green standards that I was able to afford. I enjoy working with my hands and being challenged with problem solving. Building my house meant I had to do plumbing and carpentry and some eletrical works.
What you wrote was basically what is in your description/profile. Can you give me more information as to why Playa Viva as opposed to any other farm? Why visit with us? What interests you about us in particular and what can you contribute to us through your being here in particular.
Also, Christmas is NOT a good time for us as we operate primarily as a hotel and this is our busiest time and we will not have the bandwidth to support you in getting you onboard and up to speed. Early to mid January works better. Also, we ask that volunteers commit to at least 1 month with us, it takes us that long to get them integrated into the team and productive and helps them become part of the community. How long are you committing to joining us?
Oliver, your construction experience might be of good use. We have a little "casita" that is need of repair and upgrade. I have someone else coming to work on the improvement of the building but maybe you can join him in that project. What dates are you available to join us potentially in Jan and Feb? Also, we would need to do a skype interview prior to being accepted as a volunteer at Playa Viva. Please send skype address to my email address at info@playaviva.com. Thank you, David
For the moment we have unfortunate news for one and all...we have run out of funds so we will not be able to invite anyone who is expecting food to be offered in exchange of work help...Yet I want to let you fellow woofers know that if you need a place to rest or stay for a few days you are welcome to use our ranch as a stop on your road trip. We believe we will be better of by March 2014 and able to make the proper exchanges for help and work on the farm.
